VOA60 Asia- A Japanese biotech firm uses worms in cancer detection tests

A Japanese biotech firm has developed a screening test using tiny genetically modified worms to detect early signs of pancreatic cancer in urine. The firm says it hopes this will boost routine screening.

South Korean officials reported 3,187 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, nearly matching a one-day record set in September. The country recently eased social distancing rules to lessen the pandemic’s economic impact.

Myanmar’s junta will prosecute ousted leader Aung San Suu Kyi for alleged “election fraud and lawless actions,” during 2020 polls that her party won in a landslide, state media reported. A military coup on February 1 ousted the democratically elected government.

Police in Vietnam summoned a beef noodle seller who parodied the signature style of Turkish celebrity chef Nusret Gokce, nicknamed “Salt Bae,” in a video. The noodle seller said he wasn’t trying to mock anyone and also said it wasn’t clear if police summoned him because of the video. Days earlier, a top Vietnamese official was caught on camera eating gold-encrusted steak at the chef’s London restaurant.
